A four-week profile experiment

Write the three percentages and magnitude band without converting them into labels such as gifted, weak, or advanced.

• What already feels accurate?
• What may reflect role, training, confidence, or current repertoire?
• Which result surprises you enough to test?

Select a real piece, passage, rehearsal task, production, or improvisation. Broad goals are harder to hear than one constrained situation.

• Where does this music ask for structure?
• Where does it ask for reliable action?
• Where does it ask for communicative shaping?

Make two short versions: one using your current leading domain deliberately, and one giving a smaller relative domain a specific job.

• Tonal: map the form, voicing, arrival, or pattern.
• Performative: stabilize timing, attack, transition, or repeatability.
• Expressive: define character, pacing, tone, or phrasing.

Repeat the same short comparison under similar conditions. Keep the exercise small enough that you can hear what changed.

• Record one baseline and two alternatives.
• Change one variable at a time.
• Note what became clearer and what became less convincing.

Listen in a different order if possible. Choose the version that best serves the music, not the version that most flatters the profile.

• What can you now repeat?
• What transferred to another passage?
• Did your original interpretation of the profile change?
